Phase 3 Stone Age Day

Phase 3 have been learning about the Stone Age. For the culmination of our topic, we held a Stone Age day. Mrs Duncan was baking Stone Age bread, Mr Spink making Stone Age jewellery and Mr Hermann was creating homemade ink and staining fabrics. It was a busy day, which ended with the phase and parents getting together to celebrate what had been learned.

Making The Bread

Making The Bread

Mrs Duncan (and helpers!) had great fun making the bread. The children found out all about the history of Stone Age bread, which ingredients were used and the method and process too. The children thoroughly enjoyed making the bread; they weren't too sure about the end product though! (It was much better dipped in honey!)

The children made jewellery in Mr Spink's classroom. The children found out about different types of jewellery which was made during this period in history. They really did enjoy mkaing the jewels; they also had time to make other Stone Age artefacts too!

Ink printing

In Mr Hermann's class, the children learned how to make their own ink. They used a combination of fresh spinach (to get the lovely dark green colour) and vinegar (to keep the colour on the fabric). Despite the room smelling pretty awful by the end of the process, the children really enjoyed themselves. They enjoyed experimenting with different ways to print on their fabric.

We then went into the courtyard, decorated it with our cave paintings and tucked into the lovely(!) bread which was made earlier on. We also found out which children had completed their homeschool project. Well done to Tommy, Isabella, Jared, Noah, Megan and Danny who had produced some fantastic resources. An extra well done to Tommy, whose video was rated top by our parents. All in all, a splendid day!
