Y5/6 DT Days

We had great fun with our Voyagers and Explorers topic this week. Our focus this week was Mexico, more specifically, Mexican food. Our DT topic was to test, design and make a tortilla, as well as learning about the important Health and Safety aspects of cooking. Come and see what we did and what we found out!

Taste Testing

Taste Testing

One of the first things we did was taste testing. We had an immense amount of fun doing this. We had to try samples of tortilla wraps (gluten free, wholemeal and plain white), peppers (green, red and orange) and Mexican dips (salsa, guacamole and sour cream). We loved the sweet red peppers but some of us weren't too keen on the gluten free wraps!!

Food preparation

After we taste tested the food, we had to design a tortilla wrap based on what we liked. Once that was done, we could get down to the fun of preparing and making the tortilla wrap. We learned valuable knife control skills - no fingers were lost!

Best of all, we got to taste our fantastic creations. They ranged from chicken, peppers and sour cream in white wrap tortillas to steak, green peppers and guacamole whomeal wraps. Some people thought the salsa was a bit too spicy!!
